Children and Adolescents
aWe offer a whole child approach, supporting children and adolescents with depression, anxiety, school related challenges, family adjustment, behavioral concerns and trauma. Children are experiencing higher levels of stress now more than ever, and parents are not always sure how to best respond and support. Children are having sleep disturbances, irritability, fears, worries, regression, and other areas of challenge that might reflect a need for professional support.
Parents may be concerned their child is not functioning well, is having difficulty with regulating their emotions or behaviors, or is experiencing challenging life circumstances. Children typically need a specialized style of therapy, as they don't "talk" their way through problems and conflicts, but rather "play" their own processes out in therapy. Through play therapy and other modalities, children begin to self-identify areas in their lives that need support or adjustment, so they can recover and thrive. Utilizing a variety of child friendly techniques, such as play therapy, art, and sand tray therapy, social skills training, the family and child are supported through the process. Teenagers need their own specialized method of support when they are experiencing challenges. Teens often hide the struggles they are having in an effort to be self-sufficient and independent. Sometimes they don't know if anyone will understand what they are going through because they don't understand it themselves. Teens can truly benefit from therapy, learning about themselves, developing new coping strategies, building emotional and social vocabulary to help them better understand the situations they are living in and what to do to be successful and happy. We also support parents in utilizing effective parenting methods and techniques to help the family obtain greater functioning and increased levels of peace at home. At Restore Counseling, LLC, we believe in teaching co-regulation strategies so that children and adolescents can learn how to calm, settle, and use effective coping skills with the help and support of a calm, skilled parent. Parenting is a great responsibility that comes with a lot of learning and growing. We love to partner with parents to help increase skills, strategies, and creative problem solving with children and adolescents. |
